There are rumors Timothee might be taking the upcoming Luca Guadagnino of American Psycho. Could he outdo Christian Bale’s Patrick Bateman? Chalamet only works if Bateman becomes a boy performing masculinity — which is a completely different film.
I'm not a huge Guadagnino fan, tbh, and am pretty much terrified of what he might do with American Psycho. Yikes! Agree re Chalamet, but also Mary Harron's adaptation was so good precisely because she is a woman and her relationship with Bale, I think, maybe.
I’m with you. I thought Harron nailed the adaptation. She leaned into the comedy and made the material somehow…feminine in a bizarre way. Perfect. I don’t really see the need for a remake but there rarely are reasons for remakes. And Luca is okay but seems like an odd choice. I decided to do an analysis of young actors who would be right and wrong after thinking about it last night. And what Luca could focus on in the book and have a legit reimagining but still not going to be on par with the Mary/christian version. Probably post in a day or two if you’re interested?
